„Ten Seconds Impact” was inspired by a tragic event that took place in Italy in 2022. A teenager girl was sexually abused by a high school caretaker, who was subsequently declared innocent by the court in Rome. The judgement was based on the argument that the offence could not be convicted due to its duration of less than ten seconds as this was a too short period of time. A thoroughly unacceptable decision, considering that the severity of an assault can not be measured by its duration.

The installation serves as a protest against a judgement that underlines gender inequalities.
Nonetheless, incidents of this kind do not only happen within the Italian legal system. Our work aims to address a global problem, as gender disparities are still accepted and normalised in many countries.

Changing a person’s life does not take ten seconds; even a single glance can be overwhelmingly impactful.

The chosen sample is a short documentation with footage recorded during the Werkschau of „Schmiede” in Hallein, near Salzburg in September 2023.
