NexuS

Nexus, from the Latin verb nectere, which means “to bind”, is a short multimedia interactive performance which aims at delivering a message by connecting the audience with the performance, to the point that they become part of each other.

Nexus came to life from the founding idea that when multiple people with different backgrounds come together, more complex and interdisciplinary results can be achieved compared to if they worked independently. The required exchange of information and knowledge within individuals brings new perspectives and a deeper awareness of what surrounds humankind.

This project wants to be an experience to encourage people to abandon the comfort zone by merging goals to create something new and a chance to grow a stronger reciprocal sensibility and respect, trusting others, and facing the danger of giving up control.

The viewers can actively participate in the performance through eight small self-made wooden platforms, as each can trigger different parameters of the visuals and the music. The performance offers a challenge to the audience, a goal which can only be reached during a “sweet spot”. The latter is achieved through the collaboration of the platforms and therefore of the people interacting with them.

The set-up includes projections on the two upper facades of the Salzburg University of Applied Science's main entrance, a quadrophonic sound system and the platforms in the front area of the building. The duration is between 20 and 45 minutes.
